History on El Encanto La Habana

El Encanto, Havana's extremely famous department store was also considered one of the world's supreme during the 1950s In pre-Castro Cuba, Havana was a playground for the wealthy, famous, and even more infamous gangsters. El Encanto served their clients with the luxury haute couture they expected. Fashions went directly from Paris, Rome, and Madrid to Cuba, with many items exclusive to El Encanto. Errol Flynn, Robert Taylor, John Wayne, Tyrone Power, Ray Milland, Debbie Reynolds, Pier Angelli, Lana Turner and many other Hollywood luminaries, used to shop at El Encanto. Ladies would travel to Cuba just to buy their favorite perfume or designer gown which could not be had in New York or San Francisco.
