More information about Antique Egyptian Statuette "BES" | Grand Tour Era (c 1780-1920s)

This is a blue-glazed faience statuette of the Egyptian God, "Bes". This stunning antique would make a ideal compliment to an art collection, or as a gift to any ancient civilization enthusiast.

Bes was often represented as a dwarf with a large head, bulging eyes, protruding tongue, bowed legs, bushy tail, and sometimes a crown of feathers. Bes was portrayed on statues, as well as household items such as mirrors, ointment vases, and other personal articles.

This piece was made by local Egyptians for affluent visitors who traveled to Egypt on educational "Grand Tours" of various archaeologically significant sites between 1780-1920s; a time also known as the "Egyptian Revival Period."

DIMENSIONS: 3.25 H x 1.25 x W x .75" D

This Egyptian antique is attested to as authentic and to have been made in Egypt during the “Grand Tour/Egyptian Revival” era by Mr Matthew Wicks of Ancient Hands, Ltd, and is accompanied by a digital copy of its "Provenance & Ownership" documentation.
